All mathematics department faculty are devoted to teaching. Every professor teaches a variety of courses each year, including introductory-level classes. Nearly all classes are taught by full-time faculty. Every member of the department shares a commitment to student success and places a high priority on helping their students navigate the world of mathematics.

The department is also an active center of cutting-edge mathematics research. Members of the faculty have recently published research papers and textbooks covering a range of mathematical fields, including algebra, graph theory, differential equations, probability, and voting theory. The department hosts a weekly seminar that features invited speakers from the mathematics research community, from the DC area and elsewhere. Attendance at the seminar is open to all interested students and faculty from local colleges and universities.
